As the NBA season commences, many teams have completely refurnished their roster after the recent trade deadline. The Philadelphia 76ers have officially acquired Jaylen Brown, LeBron James, and Anfernee Simons, along with a few other players in a completed trade announced on July 6, 2026, adding significant players to their roster as they look to win a championship. In return, they gave away an All-Star veteran, Paul George, along with some draft picks.
Brown arrived in Philadelphia following the best statistical season of his career. In 2025-26, he averaged a career-high of 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. He also finished sixth in NBA MVP voting. This further established him as one of the league’s leading two-way players. This trade has given Philadelphia another primary scoring option alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. Brown’s ability to attack the basket and create his own shot, along with defending multiple positions, makes him a critical addition to the team’s starting lineup. However, the cost for Jaylen Brown was Paul George and four draft picks. This shows the Sixers’ ambition to win a championship this year instead of waiting to build a different team.
For the Boston Celtics, the trade provides an experienced forward, along with some draft picks. Paul George will be a good mentor to the Celtics’ young core. The Sixers also added another major name, officially signing LeBron James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer who decided to leave the Los Angeles Lakers after 8 seasons. This signing gives the Sixers a player who can do everything on the floor. Whether it’s defending any position, creating plays, or scoring himself. The Sixers can also use him as a mentor to younger players. Having played 23 seasons in the NBA, LeBron James has one of the highest IQs on the basketball floor.
However, a problem the Sixers might encounter with LeBron is age and injuries. Nevertheless, his arrival gives the Sixers another proven star as they try to win their first NBA championship since 1983. These trades signal a clear commitment to competing instead of relying on gradual roster development. Acquiring these players has given the Sixers a lot of additional depth, giving Philadelphia more options in its backcourt rotation. The moves also increase pressure for the team’s coach. With 4 major stars on the roster, the Sixers will have to figure out how to translate individual talent into team success.
In the end, if the roster comes together as intended, Philadelphia could become a difficult matchup for opposing teams, and even win a championship. Lots of fans are excited for this upcoming season. In an interview with Aaron C 28, he said: “As a Lebron James fan, I’m very excited to see him play this season with lots of superstars at his side. I hope he wins a championship this season and further establishes himself as the goat”. Another TL student, Cristian S 28, said “personally i think that Micheal Jordan is the goat, and Lebron is just looking to join superteams.” Fans all have different points of view, but after this trade deadline, the upcoming season for the Philadelphia 76ers and the Boston Celtics will be very exciting, and if all goes well, they could go very far in the playoffs.
