Four total touchdowns, two interceptions returned for touchdowns, 3 receptions for 98 yards, and the Marin IJ Prep of the Week. Junior Robert Simkins had an outstanding game on Saturday, September 17th, as the Trojans Varsity Football team annihilated Drake.

“Coach gave me instructions to break on the ball right when it is thrown when I’m playing cornerback,” said Simkins referring to his 2 interceptions. A performance like Simkins’ does not come without work, as he and the Trojans starting quarterback, Junior Matt Peters, work everyday after practice on perfecting their route timing. The work has definitely paid off.

Simkins primarily plays cornerback on the defensive side of the ball and plays wide receiver on offense. Both positions require exceptional speed, something that one can easily tell Simkins possesses. In the game against Drake, Simkins exhibited this incredible speed on a 67 yard touchdown reception from Matt Peters, as well as on his two interceptions which he ran in for 35 yard and 55 yard pick sixes.

“That’s definitely the plan [to play college football]. I’ve made recruiting profiles and I really think I can do it,” said Simkins. Simkins is definitely striving high, and he hopes to someday play for either Oregon, Washington, Notre Dame, as well as a number of other schools. If Simkins continues to have performances like he had on Saturday, his aspirations will surely become a reality.

However, Simkins isn’t putting all of his eggs into one basket, as he can be seen on the soccer pitch and the baseball diamond. He helped lead the Trojans Varsity Boys Soccer team to an MCAL Championship last year, and he hopes that the football team will soon follow the soccer team’s success.

Congratulations to Robert Simkins on being Terra Linda’s Male Athlete of the Week, as well as being the Marin IJ Prep of the Week.
