Josie Quinby:

Junior, Josie Quinby has been on the Terra Linda Women’s Varsity soccer team for all three years of her high school career. She has been a skillful asset towards her team, becoming a captain in the  2023-2024 season. Quinby, a forward, had an amazing season scoring 18 goals and assisted her teammates 12 different times. In order to feel good in her game, Quinby has a pre game ritual she likes to do . She always has  one piece of mint gum before every soccer game, to get her ready to crush her opponents Quinby has been playing soccer since she was six years old and has enjoyed the many skills and sportsmanship she has gained from being a part of a team sport. Quinby has mentioned how she has had no trouble staying motivated when it comes to playing soccer, “Being with such a great team, it’s easy to stay motivated” Quinby states.

She not only plays TL soccer, but also plays on a club team, all year round as a center back to enhance and strengthen her skills in the sport. Another thing Quinby loves about soccer is being able to play with her friends, as well as getting to know new people she wouldn’t normally meet if it wasn’t for soccer. Like many sports, friendships are a big part of the experience. A highlight of being on the TL soccer team for Quinby was winning the bell game her Freshman and Junior year of high school. Quinby, a very talented soccer player has many strengths that make her the player she is today. “The strengths that make me a good athlete is just being flexible, and being able to listen to different coaches and my teammates, I can always learn from them.” Having this skill is very important when it comes to being a part of team sports, especially considering the captain position Quinby took on this year. “Being a captain means that I have to lead as example because my teammates trust me. It means a lot to me and I always try my best to be a good role model.”

Junior Katherine King, one of Quinby’s teammates who has been playing with her since the 6th grade, had some really great things to say about Quinby as a team player. “She’s very hardworking, and a great captain always wanting everyone to be focused…Josie’s very committed, and a well rounded player.”

Her teammates are such a huge aspect to the sport and inspire her to be her very best. “My teammates always encourage me to become a better player, they definitely want the best for me and I want the best for them.” states Quinby.

Quinby’s future goal is “Next season I definitely want us to make the playoffs, I think we have a really good chance. And I just want to do my personal best to score goals.” Quinby is an  exceptional soccer player in addition to her team, she will definitely do big things in her near future.

Quinby’s future plans for her soccer career is that she wants to continue it beyond high school whether it’s D1, club, or intramural soccer. As Quinby keeps progressing in her soccer career she will definitely have an amazing future wherever soccer takes her!

Edwin Salinas:

Edwin Salinas has been playing for the Terra Linda Men’s soccer team for all four years of high school. His first two years he played on the junior varsity team and the last two years he played on the Varsity team. Salinas has been playing soccer since he was three years old. Outside of TL, Salinas has also been a part of a club team called Marin FC because of his immense love for soccer. “Marin FC which is the club that I played for has provided me with lots of excellent experience.” Salinas, a midfielder scored 2 points throughout the season, “and even though he didn’t score many goals his dedication and hard work throughout his games really helped out his team and made a big impact” teammate Shayan Shakeri states. Salinas has been a true team player as he has not missed a single game and has persevered every time within the 18 games the soccer team has played this season.

For Salinas, something that encourages him to keep going and to become a better athlete is “My parents have always supported me in my soccer career. They always have my back no matter what and they always encourage me to do my best on the field.” Having supportive people in his life, especially his parents, have really made an impact on his love for the sport. “I like to motivate myself by reminding myself that my dad is watching me play.”  Salinas has said how his biggest strength when it comes to playing soccer is his left foot and controlling his abilities in a game. “I think my left foot is a good strength. Out of everything else I also think my technical ability is at a level where I am able to control the ball and tempo of the game.” These skills make him a very good asset to his team. Like many athletes, to get in the right mindset for a game, there is always a pre-game ritual. Salinas states “I like to listen to some Brazilian music so I can turn up during the game. I would also stretch beforehand and also talk with the lads about the game.”

Being an athlete is a very big commitment and it can be very challenging. One of Salinas favorite memories from playing soccer is “Winning the treble (Winning MCALS, North Coast Sections, and the CIF State Championships) was a tremendous accomplishment that not many people get to experience not just at TL but at any high school soccer program. It was definitely a cherished moment for me.” Salinas does plan to play soccer in college and wants to keep his career going. There is always something rewarding about playing a sport whether you win or lose, it’s an amazing moment. “Just that feeling when you score, the adrenaline and confidence you gain afterwards is something nobody can take away from you.” Salinas expresses. Something that Salinas wants to share with everyone reading, is that “I just wanted to take a moment to thank all of my teammates, coaches, and fans for supporting the soccer program here at Terra Linda. Although it wasn’t a winning season, your support continued to push me to do my best every game. Vamos Terra Linda!”
