From freshman to seniors, clothing is a major component that all Terra Linda (TL) Trojans can relate upon. Regardless of your grade, personal style is a key aspect as to how one may view themselves on a day-to-day basis, and transforms throughout one’s high-school career. Whether you prefer a classic, trendy, or out-of-the box look, style is a powerful way to make a statement and embrace your individuality. In terms of the vast fashion resonating within the hallways and classrooms, let’s take a closer look at the grade by grade glamour here at TL!
Freshman Sebastian Altura is wearing blue baggy jeans from Ebay, a long-sleeved pajama shirt, a Vans shirt, jewelry from Amazon and The Grove mall, and Reeboks he purchased at Tilly’s. In terms of his overall style, he describes his fashion in three simple words: “city, gray, and plain.” Sebastian expresses how fashion isn’t his main focus as he prefers wearing plain clothes since it allows him to feel “comfy and clean.” When it comes to his day-to-day style, he combines big pants and smaller fitted shirts, with his Coach belt he’s usually wearing to complete his outfit as it gets the job done for his busy mornings! Sebastian gets his style inspiration from self-care Tik Tokers and utilizes Pinterest, like many other Trojans, for outfit ideas. In terms of personal expression, Sebastian states, “My outfits can be interesting… [but] I don’t care about what I wear.”
Sophomore Mabry Lance is rocking blue baggy jeans from Urban Outfitters, her older sister’s thrifted, off the shoulder shirt, gray Converse, and a necklace she got from her grandma, as well as bracelets from Mexico and her mom. Impressively, Mabry mostly dresses how she acts– chill, and is predominantly influenced by her sister’s “grunge and hardcore” fashion taste of which she greatly admires. As part of her daily routine, Mabry mostly wears “dark colors” and always color-coordinates her outfits, as well as plans her outfits the night before school. Mabry describes her overall personal style as “baggy and relaxed,” and reveals how her fashion sense allows others to see a glimpse of who she is. Mabry reveals, “I put how I feel into the way I represent myself… [and] I think they do see a part of me in the way I dress.”
Junior Andrew Chong is wearing cream cargo pants from his mom’s friend, a white long-sleeve from his dad, a Harley-Davidson shirt, and Boston Birkenstocks, as well as a gifted gold chain from his birthday, and a bead necklace from Hawaii. Andrew emphasizes that fashion for him is all about “being comfortable with myself and wearing what I want without judgement,” and regards his style as “creative and calm.” Andrew’s style is mostly inspired by social media, as well as his dad’s fashion. He states that his dads style is baggy and how “he has a lot of pieces that are unique that he’s collected over his lifetime that just go together.” When it comes to self-expression, Andrew acknowledges that for some people, fashion could be a way to express themselves. However, he prefers comfort over appearance. “For myself, it’s just what I find comfortable and what I like to wear,” he emphasizes.
Senior Kiki Chapman is wearing tan cargo pants from a friend, a cropped black cardigan from a friend, a bright tank top from Urban Outfitters, her mom’s belt, and white and gray Nike shoes. In terms of her jewlery, she was gifted her necklaces and got the rest of her pieces from the antique market and local small shops, as well as Nomad. According to Kiki, her essential staple pieces are “low waisted pants all the time, maybe a cropped shirt…[and] flowy skirts.” Like her personality, Kiki describes her style as “colorful,” and believes fashion is a way you can show others who you are and how you present yourself. Kiki unveils how her personality and style go hand-in-hand, “I’m a very upfront person and it’s a little chaotic. I wear a lot of bright colors and I like patterns too… I think that’s reflected with who I am.”
At TL, fashion and personal expression is a journey every Trojan embarks on. As outfits change and trends come and go, fashion remains as a source of creativity and experimentation for all students!
