Servicing the community one action at a time, Interact Club is one of Terra Linda High School’s longest-standing clubs. TL Interact Club has remained consistent throughout the school years, partly due to its long-time collaboration with the Terra Linda Rotary Club, an international community service organization. As a high school branch of the organization, like their adult counterparts, Interact Club has brought life to the community through several service projects.
This year, they continued their tradition of organizing their semi-annual blood drive. In collaboration with Vitalant, a healthcare company, they were able to bring a blood donation bus to the Terra Linda High School campus. Junior and co-president of the Interact Club, Mila Harding explains that due to the on-site construction, they have needed to “pivot a lot of what we did, but it still ended up going pretty well.” With twenty-eight sign-ups and fifteen volunteers who ultimately qualified as donors, the numbers were slightly lower than in the past due to the lack of our cheer room. Junior co-president of Interact Club, Josie Campo explains, “Our goal is always just to get more donors and to get more people to donate blood because, ultimately, it goes towards a great cause. And it really shows support for the community.”
Additionally, with their usual turnout of thirty members, they handcrafted approximately fifty holiday cards to donate to The Bluffs at Hamilton Hill for Memory Care residents. Receiving a gesture as small as a holiday card can make a world of difference for people in need of love and support.
At the end of the fall semester, they earned a grant for an environment-based community action project. In these first few meetings leading into the winter semester, they will brainstorm and solidify a well-thought-out project to utilize the grant.
Terra Linda High School community members can without a doubt participate in the Interact Club’s efforts. Campo states, “Coming to our meetings is great, but also just kind of spreading the word and making sure the whole school knows about [interact club’s efforts].” For any new members looking to join, community service hours can also be earned by attending meetings, and participating in meetings can also allow for networking and meeting new people from all corners of Terra Linda High School. Having joined Interact Club for the community, Campo states, “It is amazing to be able to give back to the community in our club, by doing projects and donation drives.”
Interact Club has a long, impactful legacy of servicing the community and creating strong communal relationships and bonds.
