On September 13, 2016, the Terra Linda Trojans Men’s Water Polo team took a one-and-a-half hour long trek up to Ukiah. They faced the Ukiah Wildcats in their first preseason matchup of the year. The final score of the highly anticipated game was 9-7 Terra Linda. It was a close matchup from the start. However the Trojans, led by Junior Deven Lyons, were able to pull away at the end for the victory. Lyons received high praise from teammate Ryan Corr. According to the sophomore, “Deven is a very strong teammate, and a great leader. He is our varsity captain and I really like the way he leads us.” When asked about what Deven brought to the table for the team, Corr responded, “Deven has a lot of experience which he spreads to us.” Deven has a strong skillset in the pool. He is not just a scorer, he is also a well rounded defender. When asked about what his goals for the season were, the junior stated, “To win more games and to overall improve on my skills.” The junior is one of the key components that makes up the Terra Linda varsity team. With his leadership and experience, people should not be surprised to see the Trojans end up deep in the MCAL playoffs. Congratulations to Deven Lyons for being Male Athlete of the Week.
