Do You Read Terra Linda News?
October 7, 2015
Not many students have taken the time to read The Voice. Those who say they do may never have made it past the first page before shoving it in their backpack with the rest of their abandoned papers.
I would say most of the time, even I never read the entire newspaper. I occasionally skim over an article if I see something interesting .
However, with the introduction of the new and improved Voice website, a large percentage of people will start to read the news. As technology in our society has improved over the years, more and more people get their news online. Now, Terra Linda has made the switch as well.
With this transition come a number of benefits. Online, we can now reach far beyond the students and staff of the Terra Linda community, and the information will be current. With the print edition there was a delay in how current news was, with the website you will no longer be bored by old news.
Junior Tori Lehmann says that she flips through the newspaper and reads some articles and checks out the photos. However Lehmann did not know that The Voice had a website. When asked whether the switch from the Terra Linda website to the newspaper website as the homepage was a good idea, Lehmann says, “maybe. Or have it as a big link on the homepage like aeries is, because people would be frustrated having to search the website when they are used to it showing up.” Overall Lehman says “I love the print edition but with so many people on social media maybe you guys could make an app?”.
An anonymous Terra Linda parent thinks that the implementation of a website is a great thing “I always get my news online and being able to see what kids have to say would be nice to read.” “I never knew that Terra Linda had a journalism class” he also stated.
Despite the problems the print edition had in the past, this new era of The Voice website will undoubtedly improve how many people read Voice articles whether it be parents, teachers or Terra Linda students.
