Prom is one of the most memorable dances in high school, filled with juniors and seniors dressing up, dancing, and making some of their last high school memories. The event isn’t just any other dance, it’s a longheld American tradition heavily anticipated by students since freshman year. It’s a night for everyone to forget about their problems, come together in their beautiful dresses and handsome suits, and dance the night away. Students plan for prom early, figuring out their rides, outfits, and photo spots months in advance. With all the excitement surrounding prom, there’s one question always on students’minds: Where is prom going to be held this time?
This year, Terra Linda’s prom venue is the Exploratorium in San Francisco. The Exploratorium is an interactive museum with hundreds of hands-on exhibits. It’s a unique spot, sitting right on the water, giving visitors a view of the Bay and the city skyline. Inside, the building is spacious, with open areas for dancing, photos, and decorations. The scenic location and interactive interior of the building makes for the perfect venue for an event as important as prom.
ASB president and senior Ruby Vree explained why the venue was chosen, saying, “The Exploratorium was a good size to fit everyone. It also has a lot of stuff to keep people entertained, and is in a good location.” However, because the Exploratorium is so popular, it makes it a hard venue to lock down without preparation. “We started trying to find our venue the year before because of how competitive it can get,” shared Vree. “The Exploratorium is a pretty sought after venue. Because we were so ahead of it, we didn’t run into any issues with getting the venue.” She also shared some of her own thoughts on the venue, expressing her excitement for prom. “I’m super excited. We [ASB members] got to do a tour of it, and loved it.” She also mentioned that the pier will be open to students. “They will have [the pier] open for about an hour, around golden hour, so people can walk around, look at the water, and take pictures.” With the venue locked in and anticipation and excitement building, Vree is optimistic prom is going to be a night no one will forget!
Vree isn’t the only one awaiting prom. The excitement of prom has already set in for junior Khaai Owens. When Owens heard what the venue was going to be, it immediately added to her enthusiasm. She shared, “I feel like there are a lot of things to do so people won’t get bored.” She also added, “I like that it’s in the city because there are a lot of scenic spots for pictures.” Owens feels that because of the quality of the venue, it really makes the high price of attending prom worth it. An important aspect of prom for Owens isn’t just the event itself, but also how to get there. Owens shared, “I am planning on getting a party bus with a lot of my friends, and then split the cost between all of us. That way, we get to have fun without it being so costly.” At the venue, she hopes there is a chocolate fountain that she and her friends can enjoy together. Prom is something that Owens has been awaiting since her freshman year, and she is beyond excited to get to experience it this year.
As prom grows closer, the anticipation continues to grow. The Exploratorium provides a fun twist to prom, adding to the excitement surrounding the event. With this amazing venue, and the hard work of ASB, prom is set to be a meaningful night that everyone will enjoy.
