A committed soccer player since 6th grade and a cornerstone of Terra Linda’s Varsity Girls Soccer Team, Senior Rashell Diaz shines bright on the field. This season marks Rashell’s final year on the TL team and demonstrates her notable progress since freshman year. Diaz calls this year “her best season so far” and has backed this statement up with her performance over the season. She even made Marin County All League 2nd Team\ this year and is above the national average across all categories, scoring 42 points this season. This figure is more than quadruple the national average, according to Maxpreps. Throughout the season, Diaz has scored 14 goals and had 14 assists. As a midfielder and forward on the field, Diaz notes how much more freedom she got this year than playing the floating player in previous years. Her position gave her many opportunities to move around and find spaces to “play the ball,” creating chances for the team to make numerous goals throughout their season.
Despite being a very competitive person, Diaz is an inspirational team player. Her favorite part of the season this year was not the sport itself but rather being able to play with her teammates. She values gaining experience with others more than anything. Getting the chance to play with people from different clubs, positions, and walks of life has greatly contributed to Diaz’s progress and love for her sport. Winning is not the only goal in Diaz’s eyes; her greatest joy is watching her team flourish and their skills grow together. Her co-captain and teammate of over 6 years, Senior Josie Quinby, comments, “Rashell’s always the person who can make the team laugh, but also knows when to be serious and she always comes ready to win and ready to ball out.” Diaz’s dedication and leadership abilities never fail to shine through. As she always says, “If we win, we win as a team. If we lose, we lose as a team.”
After pouring countless hours into the sport, Diaz has learned how to lead, how to speak her mind, and how to be her most genuine self without fear. As Diaz graduates and enters a new chapter of her life, she hopes to further her soccer career alongside her education. We are confident that her technical skills, in combination with her interpersonal skills, will drive her to success as she continues to illuminate fields and classrooms with her positive spirit.
