On Saturday, February 6, the newly formed Science Honor Society went to the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. Jackie Helbig, the president of the club and a senior at Terra Linda, organized this first club outing and said that she “was psyched” as she planned the trip and was “very glad everything fell into place when we got there.” The activity started with a group of ten Terra Linda students and two chaperones meeting at Terra Linda to carpool over to San Francisco. Upon arriving, the students went from the Rainforest, to the Aquarium, to stop at the Planetarium show. After the show, the students had a late lunch at the Academy’s cafeteria. The students then continued to explore by going to the San Francisco earthquake exhibit, watching the African exhibit of the penguins feeding, and ended by viewing the Living Roof. There the students saw the native plants thriving surrounded by the San Francisco landscape, but what really provided entertainment for the students was the aerial advertisements provided by five airplanes flying in a row. Senior Nathan Smith particularly enjoyed the “Rocky De La Fuente for President” and the “Jesus will save us all” advertisements. The Cal Academy was the first trip that the group went on, and as senior Kirsten Annell stated, “it was enriching experience and really solidified the group.” Senior Angelique Avanozian added that the Cal Academy reminded her of “Disneyland as it was so adventurous and fun.” The students left the Cal Academy around 4:00 pm, and ended the day sipping boba drinks at a local tea shop.
